Courage
"Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says I'll try again tomorrow." ~ Mary Anne Radmacher
This one is definately going in my daughters lunchbox. My sons aren't so keen on the note from mom thing, but the girl looks for it and surely lets me know when it isn't there. Then I get a guilt ridden feeling when she says, "You must have been too busy today." UGH
The first time I saw this quote, Vic had just deployed to Iraq for the second time in two years and his leaving was fresh in my mind. It was only a few weeks after he had gone and the wound of the leaving was all too fresh. It is normally during this time that I work like crazy to get over the feeling of loss and helplessness, and that is exactly where I was when this quote passed over my desk. It is hard to feel courageous when your whole world is turned upside down, but somehow that is exactly what must be done.
Courage is always described in a big over the top way, you have to have courage to jump out of an airplane or face your darkest hours and normally we picture ourselves standing in front of some proverbial dragon that is stories tall. Ms Radmacher brings it home for me when she says that courage doesn't always have to roar. The thought that courage is just the strength of getting up tomorrow in the midst of whatever we are going through and going at it again makes us all heroes. Not HEROES like we think of but everyday heroes. Slaying everyday dragons, with everyday courage. That is something to remember as we get moving on a Monday.
Whatever you need courage for today, may you muster it.... I'll be cheering for you!
