A Blast from the Past...and a reminder

"Right Now... is your tomorrow, Right Now is everything, Right now is your magic moment.....It means everything" Van Halen ~ Right Now

Flying back from California yesterday I sat next to a gentleman my age, and as travel goes, you start to talk. We both have three kids, we both have fantastic marriages and we began to discuss the pre puberty stages and all of its craziness because our oldest kids are there. Having just left a conference talking about generations, the discussion led to our teen years and, as normally happens, we both became very animated about those things we remember. It became a popcorn conversation, with each of us just throwing out the crazy things from the 80's that were memorable: big hair, leg warmers, the Brat Pack, etc.  but all conversation stopped when he said "Van Halen". Oh my goodness, did that bring up a wealth of memories. He continued to talk excitedly about seeing Van Halen recently at a concert and he admonished me to take my husband as soon as humanly possible.
Fast forward to the next flight, later in the evening, I pull out my ipod and put on the Van Halen songs, all of them. There it was the soundtrack of my teen and early 20 years and it all came pouring back. I believe we all become passionate about that time of our lives because, for most of us, this is the time when we believe we can do anything. Those are those glory years of our lives when the sky is the limit, the future holds so much promise and the only thing holding us back is our age. Just listen to the song I've quoted, Right Now, and it is full of that fire in your belly optimism that I sang at full volume every moment of my early years. The Army smartly took this song and it's title and played with it for a commercial seen only on overseas Armed Forces Network. It is black and white and it has the words Right Now flash up with the music, then it flashes up things like "A spouse is juggling everything". It was probably supposed to give us motivation, but all I remember is that it stated the obvious, those of us who love a Soldier are tired.
Last night and today, these words mean so much more and it goes back to entry number 1. We have 365 days in a year, 24 hours in a day, 60 minutes in an hour, what is holding us back from making this time the absolute best that we possibly can? I don't have a today or a tomorrow for that matter to waste! So I woke up this morning jet lagged and I kissed my kids, I sang my daughter awake like she loves and I went about my day with enlightenment. No time to hold my breath for the perfect moment, that time is right now.  So, as the song says "what are you waiting for?"
