The Best Things in Life

"The best things in life aren't things."  ~Art Buchwald
One of my dearest friends is visiting and we realized last night that we hadn't seen eachother in almost six years. Dear friends are a window into ourselves. When I look at Dawn I see so much of who I have been. I see our times that we have had together, the good and the bad. I remember being moody and having Dawn call me on my behavior. She is the friend who told jokes and sang hymns in the delivery room in Korea when my daughter was born. She is the friend who has wiped my tears on more occasions than I can remember. She is the friend who I have laughed with so much that my face hurt. When I need a good recipe, I pull out Dawn's cookbook. When I looked at her yesterday for the first time in a long time, I found myself wanting to stare at her forever. She must have thought I was crazy. Just looking at her I found my center.
You can find your center in many ways. Vic has his back out of whack and the chiropractor is helping put him back in alignment. It has improved his whole attitude to have his neck and back finally uncracked. Some people meditate or pray. I've been trying to find the perfect way for myself to find center and get into alignment and I've had trouble lately. Trouble until my window into myself showed up yesterday..... one of the best things in life is a friend who can help you remember who you are and how far you have come. Great friends bring us back to center.
