Time to Be Great

"There is only one journey. Going inside yourself." Rainer Maria Rilke
Yesterday was a journey for the senses for me. We went to Busch Gardens and rode the rides and saw the sights. Amazing. The sounds of the animals, the sights of the animals, all of the colors of the park with the lights and the rides and the games, it was all so incredible. If you stood in the right places you could feel the vibrations from the super roller coasters as they flew by you you could even get soaked to the bone by the water rides if you were in the designated splash zones. Amusement parks are funny as you get older. I remember being a kid and running at top speed from one crazy ride to another stopping only to snack when hunger hit. The more thrills the better. Now, I could enjoy myself by simply walking through the park and taking in the animal habitats and the quieter things. I think I would be just as fulfilled if I did that. But I have children and they demand, at least for the day at the park, to spend time with the 13 year old me. Yesterday, 13 year old me was out in full force. Forget the animals, we had no time to waste. I rushed to a ride with my kids and jumped on, heart pounding and feet dangling, all reason thrown to the wind. It was amazing. Each leap of insanity I took was done with my insanely brave and incredible wonderful daughter. When I began to get afraid, I'd look her way and she would have this face full of thrill that would throw me back into the adventure of it all. At the end of a ride when my head was spinning because of the terror, her smile and excitement would reassure me that I had done what had to be done.
There is a commercial that shows two girls running through a park or playground holding hands and when they pass the waters reflection it is actually a mother and her daughter. That is exactly the gift my daughter gave to me yesterday, a journey back to the me I used to be and an opportunity to be great. Life is Good.
