 My friends who's Soldiers deployed this time last year are coming up on the one year mark of their deployment. With extended deployments, this means that they are checking off days for the second time, something I have never had to do. When extended deployments were announced last year, the Avril Lavigne song "Keep Holding On" came out on the radio and I thought that it would be one of the songs I'd play over and over again if it were me in my friends shoes.
 Extended deployments mean that the possibility for missing two instead of one birthday's, anniversaries, or important dates would increase. Extended deployments mean that Service Members miss the first day of their child in Kindergarten and 1st grade or any two successive years in school. Extended deployments mean there are many more babies being born in hospitals with dad's on the phone if they are lucky enough to get through. Extended deployments mean that our Soldiers are enduring their second summer in over 110 degree temperatures.
 I'm not trying to make a stand, I just want to shed some light on what sacrifices are being made. Our Families and our Soldiers, especially, are enduring what many of us cannot even fathom.
 I've been praying for them all from day one and I'll continue to pray until it is the last day. Thank you for your service and your sacrifice. Today, and every day, you are in my thoughts.
