Allergies
"Feelings are much like waves, we can't stop them from coming but we can choose which one to surf." ~Jonatan Mårtensson
It was a beautiful day at the Saturday market, yesterday. The sun was shining, there wasn't a cloud in the sky, and the smells and sights of the market were amazing. The flowers and crafts and plants and clothes were all vibrant in color. The smell of bread and fruit and crepes and corn roasting on a grill were intoxicating. The music from a jazz band was a perfect soundtrack to the steps of our feet as we shopped.
One stand drew us in. In various forms and shapes, with many bright colors, an artist had captured some powerful quotes. I have made it through the toughest days because of quotes from others. I am personally motivated by the thoughts of those who have come before me. I had to stop for a moment and see what this artist had to say.
His work said a lot. The quotes were about growing wings, about remembering who you are, about the strength of family. His clocks reminded us the power of words, his magnets reminded us that sometimes the struggle is the journey. His necklaces reminded us to be who we are meant to be and not a replica of someone else. As I read his things, I felt the tears well up in my eyes. When emotions come so unexpected, we call these "allergies" in my house. "Allergies" mean you don't have to explain any further the feelings that have grabbed your heart. I put my sunglasses on and continued reading.
It is a fantastic thing, to be touched so deeply by the words of others. It is proof of being, to feel such a connection to life at a place like a market where other people have placed on display the very best of who they are. I am absolutely blessed.
