Blowing Rainbows
May you always have work for your hands to do.
May your pockets hold always a coin or two.
May the sun shine bright on your windowpane.
May the rainbow be certain to follow each rain.
May the hand of a friend always be near you.
And may God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you.
~Irish Blessing
We were walking the gardens yesterday of an amusement park when we came upon a beautiful sight. The fountains were spewing water in a fan like shape and the reflection of the sun at the angle it was sitting in the sky made the fan look like a perfect rainbow. Everyone who walked by stopped to look and enjoy nature’s majesty. The fountain was blowing a rainbow.
I have an ongoing joke with a dear friend about blowing rainbows. When she is down or frustrated or just looking at life from the back end of things, I try to cheer her up. Being more than the “cup half full” kind of person, it is easy for me to find the silver lining behind the cloud. She has accused me of “blowing rainbows” and she has even asked me to “blow rainbows”. She’s gotten so used to me in her life now that there are times SHE “blows rainbows”.
Blowing rainbows is more than just that. It’s sending a dear friend all of your good energy when she is going through something tough. Blowing rainbows is calling someone on their birthday and singing Happy Birthday in full chorus. Blowing rainbows is mailing confetti or paper butterflies to a pal across the states so she can be a part of whatever show those things dropped from the sky at. Blowing rainbows is when you laugh with a friend who doesn't have a tear left to cry.
Everyone needs rainbows to remind them of the great things in life. There are tough days, days when keeping your head up are almost impossible, but rainbows give us a reason for hope. Tough days make the good days better.
Without pressure, there would be no diamonds.
Without darkness we wouldn't appreciate the light.
Without rain, we would have no rainbows.
