The Wall of America
"America was no built on fear, America was built on courage, on imagination, and on an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand." Harry S. Truman
There ought to be a wall. A wall of pictures, a monument of sorts, that can be toured around America for everyone to see. The pictures would be of us all, birthday pictures, Christmas pictures, pictures of children taking their first steps, riding their bikes, people catching fish, swimming in the ocean, driving a new car, riding their motorcycle. Happy pictures. Around the outside of the wall, framing all of these pictures, I would put pictures of our service members, the people who support and defend our constitution so we have the freedom to take those happy pictures.
The reason for my wall would be two-fold. In the faces of those pictures, both the ones in the middle and the ones in the frame, lies the hope of our country. Times are tough. People are afraid. The news is horrible to watch; jobs are being cut, the cost of living is going up, hope is being lost. This last week, though, the faces that I have passed have been faces of hopefulness. Our country is amazing, and the faces of the people who make it up are so diverse. The joy , hope and determination in those faces needs to be on the wall of America.
The second reason for the wall would be to reconnect our military with society. Let's put some real faces to the names of the people who are carrying the load of our freedom. Let's frame the joy, hope and determination in the reality of the sacrifices that are made and have been made for us to have them. I am sure this wall would be a beautiful, incredible and moving piece of art.
Norman Rockwell captured this feeling in one of his pieces titled "America" when he painted the American flag waving with people standing in front of it all facing an unseeable horizon. The faces of the people are diverse, their countenances strong, their eyes are full of determination. The American flag is flying behind them with it's stars facing forward and it's stripes flying behind, as if marching into battle. There is an air of courage in this painting and no sign of defeat, or fear, or retreat.
We have many national treasures in America, but none as powerful as the people who live here or the unbeatable spirit of our country.

Pam,
That was SUPER! Another powerful message. If that connection was made - wow - what a country we could be. Many of those faces just become numbers and that is wrong. Each one has family and those families are also very important. If only John Q citizen would take more time to understand the sacrifices these real heros are making!
I really like the Norman Rockwell piece "America" .
THANKS for the NOTES 2 GROW and all you have done for the "families"
