A Moment of Silence
"Silence is a source of great strength." ~Lao Tzu
At a baseball game a few days ago we had a moment of silence for a baseball announcer who is a legend. He passed away that day and we all stood silent in his honor. Over 30,000 people in attendance, all loudly awaiting the second home game, fell collectively silent. It was amazing.
The sound of silence is powerful. I spent the day traveling yesterday and both of my flights I spent sitting silently and looking out of the airplane window. I worked yesterday and then spent the evening silent in my hotel room. I didn't realize how thirsty I was for pure quiet.
Our culture has become very noisy. On any given day we are bombarded by noise; phone noise, computer noise, alarm clock noise, television and radio noise. There is the sound of life, which is a beautiful thing but still breaks the silence; children sounds, pet sounds, house sounds, spouse sounds. As much as these sounds drown out silence, I believe they drown out thought too. The sounds of our life beckon us to come and play, to walk away from silence.
Silence is necessary. In just the minute we stood to honor a man, the energy of thought was powerful. In just the past 24 hours, the moments of quiet have allowed me time for consideration. Today I am refreshed. Today I feel focused and renewed. Today, I can return to the world of sound with purpose. It is a good day.

Totally agree I love those silent moments they make the noise so much fun, but it is good to know our life is good enough to allow us to enjoy silence. Love you frankly MISS your noise right now, think you and I and Donna deserve a quick trip somewhere! Lu
